Weyerhaeuser’s aviation facility has been a landmark at SeaTac International Airport since 1980. Plans for a third runway addition required moving the operation to a new location on the airport. Criteria for the new facility included budget limits, strict footprint and height constraints, durability, operational efficiency, and an appearance fitting Weyerhaeuser’s history of exceptional buildings.
Collaborating with the architectural firm of Kumin Associates, Mountain Construction provided a design that combined the most effective blend of aesthetic excellence, construction technology, and best practice within the corporate aviation community.
The exterior appearance honors the existing facility while adding more windows for natural light and a second-floor viewing deck. The latest materials were used to provide high sound and thermal insulation while requiring very low maintenance.
Interiors reflect Weyerhaeuser’s heritage, using materials such as wood paneling and doors, and a cultured stone fireplace. The hangar features a durable floor coating, in-floor radiant heat, and a top-of-the-line sliding door system. Site improvements included fuel storage and dispensing system and security.
