Mountain Construction delivered this Pierce Transit major facility significantly under the $5-6 million budget for the project despite extraordinary inflation in building materials during the selection and design period and increased owner requirements for the building.
Design-builder selection began with a public call for qualifications followed by a design-build competition among five teams. Proposed designs, specifications, and prices were evaluated for the best value in meeting owner requirements. Mountain Construction’s proposal blended efficiency with high-quality and durability to minimize life-cycle costs. Afterward, Mountain personnel and our hand-picked team of architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers worked with the owner to refine the design and incorporate additional requirements.
The first floor features three training rooms with complete audio/visual facilities which may be combined into one large room with movable partition wall systems. The second floor provides offices to meet the current needs of various departments and space for future requirements.
The project included the following:
• SCOPE: Design, permits, construction, and selected furnishings, fixtures, and equipment
• STRUCTURE: steel, bar-joist, and metal deck
• WALLS: concrete with tile veneer mixed with steel frame walls, architectural metals, and aluminum storefront window systems
• SITE: modify and expand the existing parking lot for additional vehicle stalls. New infrastructure, landscape, parking, and hardscape for a new building
