Cardinal Glass reached out to Mountain Construction to build a 150,000 sq ft expansion onto their Hood River facility to be operational immediately. Mountain became involved during the design stage of the project and began providing input regarding constructability and cost in early winter of 2021. By April of that year, we were onsite and starting work!
Owner: Cardinal Glass
Size: 150,000 sq ft
There was nothing standard about this project—every piece of building and the site was fully customized to suit the specific needs of our client. We began by bringing in new utilities and re-grading the entire site. Over 10,000 yards of dirt were exported from the site and nearly as much crushed rock was brought in. There were many hurdles along the way, including extreme weather and supply chain delays but the crux of the project was keeping the plant fully operational. Trucking had to have access through the site 24/7 and over 400 plant employees needed safe and convenient parking each day. Stormwater detention was put underground, water & fire lines were re-routed, additional power was brought in from the street and all of this was accomplished without shutting down the plant for more than a couple of hours at a time.
“I’m proud of the way we were able to handle a rapidly evolving project that was changing day by day. We were fortunate to work with really great sub-contractors who worked so hard to make this happen. Mountain was able to deliver the product that Cardinal was after without making any major mistakes and while navigating extreme weather, and all of the supply chain issues that the construction industry as a whole has struggled with. We also ran an extremely safe job. We had zero safety incidents on the entire project.”
