Mountain Completes Major Renovation at Kopachuck State Park

We’re excited to share that Mountain has officially wrapped up a full-scale renovation of Kopachuck State Park—restoring and enhancing one of the South Sound’s most treasured public waterfronts.
Tucked along Henderson Bay just west of Gig Harbor, the 109-acre park reopened this summer for day use, complete with upgraded infrastructure, new amenities, and accessibility improvements throughout. Commissioned by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and awarded through a competitive bid in spring 2024, the project reflects more than a decade of community visioning and planning.
Over the past year, our team—together with our project contributors WB Construction, NYCO Construction, Nisqually Construction Services, McKinstry Electric, Refrigeration Unlimited, Buckley Nursery Company, and material suppliers Western Wood Structures and Gray Lumber Company—delivered a wide range of improvements, including:
• Two new wood frame / heavy timber buildings—a visitor center and a rentable event space—designed to blend seamlessly with the park’s natural surroundings
• Upgraded restrooms, trails, parking areas, and retaining walls
• A fully ADA-accessible amphitheater with new decks, ramps, and seating
• A new playground and outdoor learning areas featuring salvaged wood from the site
• Major upgrades to utility infrastructure and stormwater management systems
“This project was a unique opportunity,” said Rod McCarten, Project Manager at Mountain. “We’re honored the community entrusted us to preserve and enhance such a special place—one that holds so much meaning for locals and visitors alike. Delivering the project on time and on budget was a priority, and we can’t wait to see people enjoying it for years to come.”
We’re grateful to the State Parks team, our partners, and the community for making this possible—and proud to have played a part in giving Kopachuck a bright new chapter.
